Extra Credit Reading Notes : Ramayana

Rama was loved by all the men and women in the city as he was soft-spoken and tried to serve the king in every way possible. He was loved because he spoke softly but wisely even when someone tried to take advantage of him or spoke badly towards him. Dashararatha was the king who was thinking of his retirement which would happen soon and he was going to leave everything to his sons, Rama and Lakshmanan. The two princes along with their wives helped the king in every way possible. Although Rama was the one the people vouched for to become king, both boys were respected as heroes. Rama was filled with compassion and was always humble. He did not engage in unnecessary misbehavior and always looked for the good in other people. Dasharatha, the king, longed to see Rama as the prince reagent. They all unanimously agreed that Rama, the eldest son, was the rightful heir to the court and to the throne. He was the most popular choice amongst the people however, the royal astrologers thought otherwise. This concerned the king and he took part in many omens and ceremonies to get rid of the evil. All the kings and all the stages came to the assembly that was taking place and saw the current king as the leader of the earth. Everyone paid their tribute to the old king and prayed that he had made the perfect choice for the next to take over his throne. Rama then went through the necessary processes and devotional poojas to be named as the next king of the kingdom with Sita, his loyal wife, by his side.

This story really uplifted my spirits as it is one of the stories that I used to be taught and read to when I was younger. The story of Rama and Lakshmanan being the most respectful and kindest people to where the entire kingdom and civilian population liked and preferred them is so amazing to me. To have so many people like you without one person having an issue is something that is truly a virtue. Having Rama take up the throne following his father's reign is something that resembles Greek Mythology and heirs and reigns to me as nowadays, the sons take over the family property & wealth.

The image to the left shows that Rama has been initiated to take over the throne and the kingdom after the reign of his father, Dasharatha. Lakshmana, shown on the right leaned next to the tree, does everything in his power to fight alongside his loving brother Rama and is his biggest supporter as they are the most respected brothers existent in the kingdom.
