Reading Notes : Mahabharata, Part A

King Shantanu (Hastinapur) met Ganga and they fell in love and all their children were drowned in the river up until their eighth child who King Shantanu stopped since he was getting annoyed that she kept killing all the children.

The reason she did it was because she believed in the Vasus and that they are supposed to kill them up until the eleventh. She also left King Shantanu since they married each other on one condition - no matter what she does, he cannot get mad at her and he agreed up until the point that she killed the eighth child and when he got onto her about it.

The eighth child, Devavrat grew up around his father and ended up being taken good care of up until he grew up older. He later grew into a young Bhishma and ended up taking the responsibility of the entire village and grew up to be a noble, and powerful man who grew up without his mother.

This made Bhishma not like growing up without his mother and the fact that everyone kept wondering about whether or not he has talked to her, it made him grow more and more upset about the fact that his mother killed all the kids and almost killed him as well.

The Pandu brothers were the grandsons of Vyasa and Vyasa was the author of Mahabarata. Additionally, he came up with the Vedas and Brahma told Vyasa that Ganesha is the scribe and Ganesha put a requirement on this offer and said that he'll be a scribe when he is given the ability to be immortal and not ever die. Brahma passed up on this offer and told him to take another request.

That's when Ganesha asked for only if his pen was made continuous. Brahma agreed to that request and they both agreed and Vyasa introduced him to Vaishampayana who was his disciple.

Vaishampayana sacrificed a snake in order to take up this request and then took the snake's life and Janamejaya helped. Janamejaya is the king of Hastinapura and he is also the great grandson of Arjuna who is one of Pandu's five brothers. Pandu brothers are the grandsons of Vyasa.

The king of Chedi was devoted to ascetism and scared the gods and his one fear was that the gods would rob him of his power and then he sent Indra to bribe him and he also had another request and that was to bribe him with a crystal car. This crystal car carried him through the sky.

When he was flying during the springtime, his semen fell into the water and he ended up getting a female fish pregnant. This female fish gave birth to a set of twins who ended up being a girl and a boy child. The king took possession of the boy and left the girl alone.

There was a ferryman who took the girl and ended up being his foster father as she was left alone  The girl's name ended up being Satyavati and she made a deal with the ferryman to lose her fishy smell and ended up making a deal and having Dwaipayana who was an island born child.

The maiden was Satyavati who ended up being adopted by her reputed sire and had a mother who was a fish and a father who was a big powerful king or otherwise known as raja. Everyone was aware of Satyavati's beauty and she was one of the most prettiest females that they have come across.

Parashara wanted to be the father of Satyavati's children and ended up asking for her hand in marriage and Satyavati's father declined the offer. Satyavati's father ended up declining the ofer since Parashara declined the offer that her father offered.

Satyavati's father offered her to take the throne if Parashara was made sure of the offer as he wanted her as the next disciple on the throne and have access to the wealth of the family. Shantanu disagreed since Devavrata was next up in line and Shantanu walked away broken hearted.

Bhishma was a terrible one and had been given to Satyavati and they gave birth to two sons and their names were Chitrangada and Vichitravirya. This made Shantanu sink in his burden. Bhishma ended up taking care of his family and renounced his throne.

Chitrangada ended up proclaiming his kingdom and ended up being a haughty ruler but only for a short period of time due to not many people liking him and also ended up waging wars against many different characters.

He waged war against Gandhari and was killed in battle. Bhishma put Vachitravirya on the throne and since he was younger, Bhishma was regent. This was both a good and bad thing as he was a powerful ruler but then he was too straightforward and rude about the way he was ruling things.

Bhishma I felt that Bhishma was the main character in the first part of the Mahabharatta part A and part B since he was the child that was left behind who ended up prospering in all aspects.
